How fast is Jarvan IVs full clear?
Jarvan IVs clear is relatively fast, considering most meta junglers like
Xin Zhao,
Wukong,
Naafiri have slower clears. And that's why this clear can be used to our advantage, allowing us to be first on a certain play, having enough time to fullclear, gank a lane without losing the
Scuttle Crab. Or even basing, buying two
Long Swords and matching the second
Scuttle Crab.
Which Runes are the best for Jarvan IV?
This is where I see a lot of different opinions regarding
Jarvan IV. Mine is that going double
Adaptive Force is not only faster, but infinitely better, in todays meta the champion is played in a more assassin oriented style and his
Dragon Strike and
Cataclysm have insanely good AD scalings, while he has an attack speed steroid in his
Demacian Standard, thus I think choosing
Adaptive Force over
Attack Speed makes much more sense. In the third row, we will get
Health Scaling, as the clear is healthy and fast enough that we don't have to trade off the scaling for flat health.
Now regarding other runes, most people play
Jarvan IV with
Conqueror, and in that setup they chose to have
Legend: Alacrity, which I personally don't like on
Jarvan IV and not because its a bad rune, but because
Legend: Haste suits
Jarvan IV more. He LOVES Ability Haste, allowing yourself to flag and drag over and over again in a teamfight is just too valuable to miss up on and that's why my recommendation is to go
Legend: Haste if you decide on running
Conqueror. If you want to play him in an even more assassin style, which I'd say is the best way to play
Jarvan IV at the moment, check out my
Jarvan IV build guide where I explain my
Electrocute set up!
What spell is best to start?

Starting
Demacian Standard is a no-brainer, it has two big advantages compared to
Dragon Strike, first one is the bonus attack speed upon casting it, and the second one is that you can throw it on another camp, make it run towards you while you're doing a camp and effectively save time that way. On level 2, we will take
Dragon Strike as expected. Now on level 3 is where the opinions start dividing again. Putting another point in
Dragon Strike is a bit faster, but barely. Last season it did end up being about 3s faster, but in this season its barely 1 or 2s because the damage increase ins't big enough to save you multiple auto attacks on camps. And with that low of a difference, it makes no sense to trade off 200-250 health that your
Golden Aegis saves you.
The only scenario where putting another point in
Dragon Strike would be fine is if you are planning on basing 100% after your full clear and you know that the enemy jungler can't invade you on
Red Buff. If there is even a slight chance of you getting invaded, I still think getting a point in
Golden Aegis is valuable because you will be healthier and your dueling will be much better.
Should I do Krugs before Red Buff?
Doing
Krugs before
Red Buff is more efficient, and I do think on
Jarvan IV it maters quite a bit, but keep in mind that this champion can find very good angles for ganks and wins a lot of 1v1s on level 4 if he jumps on the enemy out of fog. So only skip
Red Buff, and do
Krugs first if you are 100% certain there will be no fighting or you plan to pivot to the other
Scuttle Crab.
Why aren't you using two smites?
The clear itself is fast enough so that most of the games you don't need to use the second
Smite, but if you see a gank opportunity or if the enemy jungler is late on his clear and you can invade him while he's doing a camp - make sure to take that angle and smite your
Red Buff and finish the clear faster!
Important mechanics & Tips:
- Throwing
Demacian Standard onto the
Raptors wall, will extend the range and drop it onto the big raptor as long as its atleast 1 pixel closer to that side of the wall similiar to how
Flash works.
Jarvan IVs
Golden Aegis has a long shield duration, which means you can use it as you're walking up to camp, to put it on cooldown earlier and this way saving more total health while clearing the jungle.
Martial Cadence deals bonus % current health damage so make sure you don't early
Smite
Blue Buff, and do it only after procing your last passive onto it.
