Can Maokai full clear before Scuttle Crab spawn?

Of course! Maokai Maokai has a very fast first clear if done right and by following along in this guide, you are one step into the right direction! Learning the fastest first clear can be a huge advantage for both SoloQ and competitive jungle - as being done with your clear 15 seconds before Scuttle Crab Scuttle Crab spawns leaves you enough time to impact a lane by ganking, or set up your Sapling Toss Sapling Toss in the bushes before the enemy jungler tries to contest Scuttle Crab.

 

Which Runes are BEST for Maokai?

Maokai Maokais main source of damage in the jungle is his Bramble Smash Bramble Smash, especially on Blue Buff Blue Buff and Red Buff Red Buff where we want to hit them together with the Gromp Gromp or Krugs Krugs, so going Ability Haste Ability Haste as our first rune choice is by far the best. Second option is Adaptive Force Adaptive Force and third will be Health Scaling Health Scaling. 

What spell is best to start?

As mentioned above, Bramble Smash Bramble Smash is the main damaging spell for Maokai Maokai in the jungle, so it only makes sense to start with it. Level two we will take Sapling Toss Sapling Toss, which allows us to pull camps from greater range. Once you hit level 3, in case you decide to opt for a full clear and finish every camp available, put another point in your Bramble Smash Bramble Smash - as it increases your damage and overall speed because of Twisted Advance Twisted Advances low damage output and long cooldown. 

Important mechanics & Tips:

  • Bramble Smash Bramble Smash knockback - abuse your Bramble Smash Bramble Smash displacement of big monsters and stand behind the Blue Buff Blue Buff and Bramble Smash Bramble Smash it towards the Gromp Gromp to save precious time, same goes for Red Buff Red Buff and all the other camps, but especially buffs.
  • Double camping - on Blue Buff Blue Buff and Red Buff Red Buff a lot of time will be saved if you use your Bramble Smash Bramble Smash to hit both the buff and either Gromp Gromp or Krugs Krugs.
  • In case you're worried about getting invaded, think about using your Sapling Toss Sapling Toss in the bush above Red Buff Red Buff, it will slow down your clear for 1 or 2 seconds, but its better then getting invaded and dying!
